Study Abroad Peer Advisors

The Study Abroad Peer Advisor organization is a group of students who have previously studied abroad and are now dedicated to sharing their experiences with other students. We assist students interested in learning more about UF's study abroad opportunities by matching them with students who have studied on similar programs/locations, or who share similar academic interests.  Please see the bottom of this page for information on how to contact and meet us.

The Peer Advisor organization is a unique asset to students wishing to study abroad in that it is a group of roughly 70 UF study abroad alumni who volunteer their time to assist with the study abroad process. Because we have recently viewed the country from a student's perspective, we are equipped to answer questions that address issues which are central to the life of every college student, including such seemingly trivial things as eating, shopping, and doing laundry in your country of interest.  If you are interested in studying abroad and want to learn more about another student's experiences overseas, then come on over to the International Center in the Hub and speak with a Peer Advisor today!

  • Study Abroad Presentations

Are you planning a student meeting or lecture that could be tied in to study abroad opportunities at UF? Looking for an interesting guest speaker to liven up your classroom? Consider requesting a Peer Advisor to come speak to your class about study abroad opportunities here at the University of Florida. We as Peer Advisors are trained present and answer questions about topics such as the main types of study abroad programs offered at UF, the transfer of credits from foreign institutions, and receiving financial aid while abroad. We frequently present at student organization meetings, First Year Florida classes, dormitories, and other gatherings. Please email UFSAPA@gmail.com to request a presentation.

  • UF International Center Events

The Study Abroad Peer Advisors routinely assist the UFISC with special events throughout the year. We attend pre-departure and re-entry sessions, the study abroad fair and the study abroad information sessions sponsored by the UFIC.  Peer Advisors are also responsible for creating/managing a variety of activities related to study abroad throughout the year, such as tabling and information sessions.

Please feel free to contact the Peer Advisors at UFSAPA@gmail.com
with any additional questions.  The UFIC advisor for this group is Kirsten Eller Laufer, and she can be reached at klaufer@ufic.ufl.edu.
