The University of Florida offers a six-week course at the Instituto Brasil-Estados Unidos (IBEU), located in Rio de Janeiro. A sophisticated city of over 10 million people, Rio is one of the world?s most beautiful urban settings. The city boasts world-famous beaches and a vibrant cultural scene. - Language classes in Portuguese in 3 three levels of instruction (intermediate to advanced)
- Brazilian culture and civilization classes
- Opportunity for organized cultural excursions to: Petropolis, Rio?s historic center and nature parks, as well as Sugar Loaf and Corcovado
- Air passes available to other cities such as São Paulo, Porto Alegre, and Recife through US travel agents.
COURSE OFFERINGS each course is for 3 undergraduate transfer credits (courses taken generally satisfy UF academic requirements): Language, taught by IBEU faculty Culture & Civilization, taught by UF and Georgetown faculty plus guest lecturers from local universities
Eligibility: UF students who : - At least 18 years of age
- Have a 2.5 GPA or above on 4.0 scale
- Have completed two semesters at UF
- Have taken at least one year of Portuguese language
UF in Rio The University of Florida offers a six-week program at the Instituto Brasil-Estados Unidos (IBEU), located in the heart of the Copacabana section of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A highly regarded center for language instruction, IBEU provides pleasant classrooms, an Internet-equipped language laboratory, a library, and highly trained language instructors. Financial Aid University of Florida students needing financial aid should apply through UF Student Financial Affairs (SFA). Non-UF students needing financial aid must apply to their home institutions. Scholarships Application for summer scholarships are administered by the UF International Center. Application forms available at the website: www.abroad.ufic.ufl.edu. Partial scholarships for UF students are available on a competitive basis through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Honors program, as well as the UF International Center. Academic Credits This is a UF program and credits taken can satisfy major, minor, and university requirements, with prior approval. Transfer credit will be earned with courses taught at Instituto Brasil-Estados Unidos (IBEU). Housing Participants live with families, selected by IBEU, in Copacabana and neighboring districts close to IBEU . Living with local families promotes immersion in the language and culture of Brazil. Host families provide breakfast and dinner.
