The UF Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, in partnership with Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile (with an ABET certified CoE), offers a unique opportunity to learn about International Industrial Energy Consulting in Santiago, Chile. The 2-week trip offers students an opportunity to perform Energy Audits to manufacturing facilities in Chile, the newest NAFTA country.

COURSE OFFERINGS: 3 UF GPA credits

EIN 4905 / EIN 6905: International Industrial Energy Consulting

The final grade considers participation, delivery of two reports plus final exam.

 

 

 

 

Eligibility: Undergraduate and graduate students:

  • GPA of 3.0 or greater
  • Already taken one of the following required courses:
    • Energy Management (EML 5465)
    • Industrial Energy Management (EIN 4321)
    • Thermodynamics (EML 3100 or EML 3070) or similar course.
  • All applicants are required to interview with the Instructor prior to acceptance.

Knowledge of Spanish is not required.

Academic Credits

This is a UF program and the credits earned can satisfy major, minor, and university requirements.

Santiago, ChileUF in Chile

As the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering has formed a partnership with Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile (with an ABET certified CoE), students will have a unique opportunity to learn about International Industrial Energy Consulting in Santiago, Chile. During the two week trip, students will perform Energy Audits to manufacturing facilities in Chile, the newest NAFTA country. This is an interdisciplinary approach to issues facing the Latin America economy. Students will learn about NAFTA and about the effects of climate, geographic influence, and pollution. The course will blend theory and ideas with real world engineering, reaching outside the classroom.

Students will enhance their knowledge of industrial energy management on an international level. This will enable students to develop overall global awareness in energy and ethics in energy efficiency. Immersed in Chile, students will be exposed to international industrial energy consulting. Participants will study the region and the country?s economics, the energy policies, energy usage, costs, and they will examine new and improved equipment and technologies. Students will explore energy efficiency processes, alternative energy sources, renewable energy resources, and climate dependence. Speakers from local universities and utility companies will provide additional insights.

Housing

The program fee provides for participants to stay in a hotel which includes breakfast. Additionally, some group meals / lunches and a farewell dinner will be organized for the participants.

Financial Aid

University of Florida students needing financial aid should apply through UF Student Financial Affairs (SFA). Non-UF students needing financial aid must apply to their home institutions.

Scholarships

Partial scholarships for UF students are available on a competitive basis through the International Center.
