UF in Costa Rica - Tropical Ecosystems  (Spring Break)

The School of Forest Resources and Conservation at UF offers students an opportunity to earn 3 credits while studying abroad 6 days and 7 nights in beautiful Costa Rica!

HIGHLIGHTS

TROPICAL ECOSYSTEMS

  • You will learn about tropical ecosystems and environmentally based development while in one of the most beautiful Latin American countries.
  • This trip will take to places in Costa Rica most tourists never see! Students will learn about eco-tourism, cultural history, and food production industry.
  • Previous trip highlights have included horseback riding on the continental divide, bat trapping, visits to food production facilities, National parks & resources, local farms & rural communities, the Island biological reserve, volcanoes & tropical rain forests, oil palm plantation, and eco-friendly food production sites.

COURSE OFFERINGS Courses taught by UF Faculty - UF GPA credit

  • 3 credits of ALS 4404 (undergraduate) or ALS 5905 (graduate)- International Studies

Elegibility: GPA: 2.0

Students must be in good standing with the University of Florida.

UF in Costa Rica (Spring Break)

This is an eight-day trip to Costa Rica during spring break to study ecotourism and recreation.

The program is designed for All UF students but specifically designed for students who have natural resource or agricultural-related majors. 

Housing

While in Costa Rica, students will stay in hotels, lodges, and research stations.

Financial Aid

University of Florida students needing financial aid should apply through UF Student Financial Affairs (SFA). Non-UF students needing financial aid must apply to their home institutions. Assistantships do not cover the tuition cost of UF graduate students.

As this program is offered during the spring semester, students will be able to use funds from the Florida Bright Futures scholarship toward the cost of the program. The Florida Bright Futures program will cover the tuition cost for undergraduate students.

Academic Credits

The UF in Costa Rica is a UF sponsored program, and credits taken can satisfy major, minor, and university requirements with prior approval. UF GPA credit will be granted for all courses.
