Intensive Intermediate German

In UF's "B1/C1 Intensive German" program in Mannheim, Germany, students earn up to nine credits in German language and culture in classes taught by instructors at the University of Mannheim. Students prepare themselves in intensive coursework at the intermediate "B1" level for the Zertifikat Deutsch exam or at the advanced "C1" level for the Goethe-Zertifikat C1-exam. These exams document intermediate and advanced proficiency levels in German according to the internationally recognized Common European Framework of Reference for Language Proficiency. Mannheim provides a prime example of modern German urban life, offering also a unique blend of cultural and economic activities in the heart of the historic Palatinate region.

The ProgramMap

The Mannheim Summer program is a total language and culture  immersion program.  Classes are taught by local instructors and students are encouraged to speak German at all times.  Students also participate in an "Interaction Partner" program which pairs American and   German students.  The students meet twice a week to improve their ability to speak and understand the German language as they gain insights into everyday life in the local community.

Financial Aid

University of Florida students needing financial aid should apply through UF Student Financial Affairs (SFA).  Non-UF students needing financial aid must apply to their home institutions.

Scholarships

Application for summer scholarships are administered by the UF International Center. Application forms available at the website: www.abroad.ufic.ufl.edu and at the International Center in 170 Hub.

Partial scholarships for UF students are available on a competitive basis through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Honors program, as well as the International Center.

Universitat Mannheim

Housing and Meals

Students are housed in student dormitories of the University of Mannheim. The rooms are wired for Internet access and are in close proximity to classrooms.

Academics

As this is a UF program, credits taken can satisfy major, minor, and university requirements with prior approval.  UF GPA credit will be granted for all courses taught by local instructors at the  University of Mannheim. 

GER 2200: Intermediate German I (weeks 1-3)
GER 2240: Intermediate German II (weeks 4-6)
GER 2243: Intermediate Interactive Practice (weeks 1-6)

Prerequisite: completion of GER 1126 or the equivalent with B-level grades or higher.

For the advanced, C1 level
GER 4956:
Advanced Intensive German in Mannheim, 6 UFGPA credit (weeks 1-6)
GER 4956: Advanced Interactive Practice, 3 UFGPA credits (weeks 1-6)

FEES DUE UPON APPLICATION

A non-refundable $250 deposit toward the total cost of the program is required at the time of application.  The remaining fees are due no than 30 days prior to departure.

Students receiving financial aid may defer payment for up to 60 days after departure.  

NOT included in the program fees: Round-trip airfare, additional personal travel and personal expenses.
