Program Description:

UF in Beijing, China

Beijing

The UF Beijing Program offers students the opportunity to a full year's worth of transfer credit of Chinese language study at the Intermediate or Advanced level while studying for 12 weeks during the summer. Students will study at Beijing's Tsinghua University, one of the top universities in China.

COURSE OFFERINGS (12 to 16 transfer credits, taught by Tsinghua University faculty)

  • up to 10 credits for full-year equivalency of Intermediate Chinese
  • up to 6 credits for full-year equivalency of Advanced Chinese
  • 3-credit Beijing History and Culture course
  • 3 additional credits that can be applied to the AALL major or minor

Eligibility:

This course is open to all graduate and undergraduate students in good academic standing with a GPA of at least 3.0. UF students must have completed at least one semester at UF. Non-UF students must submit 2 letters of recommendation, original transcript, and essay. Up to 10 credits for full-year equivalency of either Beginning or Intermediate Chinese

Academic Credits

The UF in Beijing is a UF sponsored program, and transfer credits from completed courses taken can satisfy major, minor, and university requirements if pre-approved by an academic department. Transfer credit will be granted for courses taken.

UF in Beijing

The UF Center for International Studies is located inside Beijing's university zone where 12 university campuses are located next to one another. The UF Beijing Center will provide services to UF students when they are studying in Beijing. These services include airport pickup, on-site orientation, 24/7 emergency assistance and general consultation. Program excursions may include Beijing downtown hu-tong tours, tasting local specialties, including Peking Duck and sight-seeing within the greater Beijing area.

Housing

Students will stay in dorms on the Tsinghua University campus which include TV, telephone and Internet connection (additional charge for data flow). Students will be provided 3 meals per day.

Financial Aid

University of Florida students needing financial aid should apply through UF Student Financial Affairs (SFA). Non-UF students needing financial aid must apply to their home institutions. Payments from the Florida Pre-Paid program can be applied toward the program fee.

Program fee: TBA

Program fee includes: Tuition for up to 16 credits for students in Intermediate Chinese, 12 credits for students in Advanced Chinese, prepayment for lodging in a dorm room, three meals per day for the duration of the program, excursions in Beijing, use of a cell phone, and international health insurance which includes medical emergency assistance.

Round-trip airfare is NOT included.
