The Center for European Studies (CES) at UF offers students an opportunity to earn up to nine (9) credits in Istanbul, at Sabanci University. Courses include "Survival Turkish" as well as a University of Florida faculty taught course on 'Turkey's European Ambition' and a selection of additional courses taught by Sabanci University faculty members.

FLAS Fellowship Competition The Center for European Studies (CES) announces a competition for summer Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships for language training related to European Studies. Only US citizens and permanent residents are eligible to apply for this fellowship. Applicants must be currently enrolled or accepted to a degree program at the University of Florida, either as a graduate or undergraduate student in a disciplinary department of their choice. Only undergraduate students pursuing language study at the advanced level will be considered.Summer fellowships provide students with an opportunity to undertake intensive European language study in any USDOE approved program. Intensive language study is defined by the USDOE as at least 140 hours of instruction for students at the beginning and intermediate levels, and 120 hours for advanced-level students. The summer FLAS award should provide each fellow with the equivalent of a full academic year's worth of language instruction, and students must attend a program that is a minimum of six weeks in length. Summer fellowships cover tuition at the host institution and provide a stipend of $2,500. Travel awards (covering the actual cost of travel only, up to $1000) may also be available. The statement of purpose accompanying the application for a summer fellowship should indicate why summer study is desired and how it will contribute to the candidate's program of study. Applicants are responsible for finding an appropriate and eligible program of study, in consultation with their language instructor(s) and/or advisors. - Three (3) UF Graduate School Recommendation Letters, which should be sent directly to the Center for European Studies.
- Official graduate/undergraduate transcripts from all institutions attended.
- A cover letter designating interest in the FLAS Fellowship.
- Statement of Purpose detailing why summer study is desired and how it will contribute to the candidate's program of study.
- Specific information on the program applicant wishes to attend (i.e. fees, contact hours, instructor qualifications).

HOUSING
Students will reside in central Istanbul accommodation affiliated with Sabanci University, the exact location of which will be determined and confirmed prior to departure.
ACADEMIC CREDITS
The UF in Istanbul program is UF sponsored program. Credits from courses taken can satisfy major, minor, elective and university requirements. Transfer credit will be earned for courses taken with Sabanci University faculty.
