About the University

The University of Florida’s College of Liberal Arts and Science offers students the opportunity to study in Melbourne, Australia. Founded in 1853, the University of Melbourne is consistently ranked one of the top two universities in Australia and within the top 50 in the world. The University is a leading research institution that has a truly global atmosphere with 27% of its student population coming from outside of Australia. The university is home to nearly 40,000 students and is located in the bustling business district of the city.

About the Location

The second most populated city in Australia, Melbourne is the capital of the state of Victoria and has been voted the world’s most livable city by the European Interest Unit for six straight years. Melbourne is a bustling city that has something for everyone. The city produces some of Australia’s best art, music, food, fashion, and performances in Australia. Academic Credit

As this is a UF exchange program, credits taken can satisfy major, minor, and elective course requirements with prior approval. UF GPA credit will be granted for all courses taken at University of Melbourne.


A large number of University of Melbourne courses have been pre-approved to transfer course credit (see sample of course equivalents). Additional course equivalents are possible by contacting Dr. Brian Harfe in the CLAS Deans Office. You can also search through all courses available at Melbourne here.   • Open to all CLAS majors (Science majors, including pre-medical/dental/vet students, are encouraged to apply)
  • Required GPA: 3.0
  • Students must have completed 12 hours of coursework at the University of Florida.

The University of Melbourne offers exchange students a range of accommodation options to suite different personalities, budgets and lifestyles. This includes off-campus accommodation. The university has a full-time staff member dedicated to assisting incoming students with their housing questions. To read more about housing, click here


Tuition at the host school is waived for exchange students. Students participating in an exchange pay tuition directly to the University of Florida at their usual tuition rate. All financial aid, scholarships, and fellowships are applicable. Students incur no additional tuition cost while they are on an exchange.

Financial Aid

Most financial aid that you would receive on campus during the semester can be applied toward the cost of this study abroad program; however, all financial aid eligibility is determined by Student Financial Affairs. You must speak with Allison Costa, the study abroad financial aid advisor, to determine what aid can be applied to the cost of this study abroad program, including scholarships.


The Brian and Kate Harfe International Exchange Scholarship is available for this program. Please note that preference will be given to students spending an entire year abroad.

Application Fee

A $300 non-refundable service charge is assessed for students participating in single semester terms and a $500 non-refundable service charge is assessed for all participating in Academic Year programs. (The $300/$500 fee is refundable if student is not accepted to the program). This charge is due within 21 days of the application.
