UF in Haiti

Environmental and Global Health

About the Program

This experience offers new and targeted opportunities for students who seek to further their knowledge and practice in global public health. The program will offer field experience in community health, surveillance of infectious disease, and pathogen research. In addition to experiencing the local culture and life in rural areas of Haiti, you will also be contributing
to community-based participatory research by working with local Haitian students and community partners.

About the Location

Gressier, Haiti is located 20km west of the capital, Port-au-Prince along the southern peninsula. The second site, Baraderes, is further along the southern peninsula in a remote, rural area of Haiti.


You will have the opportunity to travel to Jacmel, Basin Bleu, and, local beaches.

You will be housed in the UF House within the Christianville compound in Gressier and within a gated compound in Baraderes.

Financial Aid

Most financial aid that you would receive on campus during the summer can be applied toward the cost of this study abroad program; however, all financial aid eligibility is determined by Student Financial Affairs. You must speak with your financial aid advisor to determine what aid can be applied to the cost of this study abroad program, including scholarships.

2018 Pricing

2018 Undergraduate Program Fee: $3,580

A $350 nonrefundable deposit toward the total cost of the program is due at the time of application. The remaining fees are due no later than 45 days prior to departure.

What's Included:

Tuition for 6 UF GPA credits, housing, local transportation with driver, international health insurance, meals, tourist fee, and emergency medical assistance 

What's Not Included:

Round-trip airfare to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, immunizations, aditional personal expenses and travel
