Sustaining Humans and their Environments
Summer A: TBA


About the Program

Spend 10 days traveling through the mainland of Fiji and one of its offshore islands. Observe Fiji firsthand with local field guides and UF professors with expertise in the fields related to ecotourism and sustanability. You can participate in the program on its own or add it onto the North Queensland Humans and the Environment or the New Zealand Adventure Recreation and Tourism programs.

Fiji is known for its vibrant traditional culture and spectacular natural


Excursions include snorkeling to view coral reefs, a Fijian craft market, a Hindu temple, kayaking class II rapids with Rivers Fiji, and spending a night with a Fijian family.

You will stay in a variety of lodgings, including a budget hotel, beach side bures and one night with a Fijian family.

Examine Human and Cultural Aspects of Fijian Society with a Focus on Ecotourism and Sustainability.

Most financial aid that you would receive on campus during the summer can be applied toward the cost of this study abroad program; however, all financial aid eligibility is determined by Student Financial Affairs. You must speak with your financial aid advisor to determine what aid can be applied to the cost of this study abroad program, including scholarships.

A $350 or $700 (combined program) nonrefundable deposit toward the total cost of the program is due at the time of application. The remaining fees are due no later than 45 days prior to departure. If you receive financial aid, you can defer payment until it disburses. Deferment decision will be based on the amount of aid to be received.

What's Included:

Tuition for 3 credits, all accommodations, in-country transportation, lectures and seminars, all field excursions and entrance fees, most meals, international health insurance, and emergency medical assistance.

What's Not Included:

Round-trip airfare, some meals, course packet, additional personal travel, and personal expenses.
