UF in Chengdu

Chinese Language
Summer A: May 18 - June 24, 2018
Summer C: May 18 - July 29, 2018

About the Program

Spend Summer A or Summer C studying Chinese Language in Chengdu, China. This program is offered in collaboration with the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) College of International Education. 

About the Location

Chengdu is an old capital city of China as well as a modern metropolis. In addition to scenic and historic sites within the city, places of interest nearby include the Buddha of Leshan and beautiful Emei Mountain.


Program excursions include visits to the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base, Dujiang Irrigations, Qingcheng Mountain, and a Dao temple.


Each participant will have a single room with a private bathroom on the SWUFE camps.

Financial Aid

Most financial aid that you would receive on campus during the summer can be applied toward the cost of this study abroad program; however, all financial aid eligibility is determined by Student Financial Affairs. You must speak with your financial aid advisor to determine what aid can be applied to the cost of this study abroad program, including scholarships.

 2018 Pricing

2018, Summer A Undergraduate Program Fee: $2,350
2018, Summer C Undergraduate Program Fee: $3,488

A $350 nonrefundable deposit toward the total cost of the program is due at the time of application. The remaining fees due no later than 45 days prior to departure. If you receive financial aid, you can defer payment until it disburses.

What's Included:

Tuition for 8 credits (Summer A) or 12 (13) credits (Summer C), lodging, SWUFE registration, international health insurance, and medical emergency assistance.

What's Not Included:

Round-trip airfare, additional personal travel, and personal expenses.

Estimated food cost (3 meals a day) is $120 per month. You may purchase a cafeteria meal card, to wich funds can be added as needed.

To obtain Chinese currency, or renminbi, you may use credit/debit cards at ATMs near campus. You are strongly urged to exchange some dollars for renminbi before departure or at the airport.
