About the Program

Several premier U.S. universities and EARTH University in Costa Rica have come together to create a unique study abroad program. This program is hosted by EARTH University, a world-leader in sustainability. Prepare to expand your cultural boundaries, place yourself ahead of the curve as a professional and return to your country ready to make a difference. This program consists of two 3-week sessions during Summer A that can be taken separately or together.

Program Highlights

  • Make global contacts; EARTH represents people from over 30 different countries.
  • Immerse yourself in one of the most biodiverse countries in the world.


Excursions include a visit to EARTH University's La Flor campus in northwest Costa Rica near the Pacific Ocean. You will also have the opportunity to visit volcanoes, rainforests, and beachees.


You will be housed in residence halls on EARTH University's campuses.

Course Information

College of Agriculture & Life Sciences
Each course will earn 3 transfer credits of ALS 4404

Session 1 Courses:
- Tropical Forest Carbon Management: Tools for Protecting Rain Forests and Mitigating Climate Change
(Michigan State University)

- Making Agriculture Sustainable: Understanding Challenges and Finding Solutions
(EARTH University)

Session 2 Courses:
- Engaging Rural Communities: Tools and Methodologies for Sustainable Development
(UF's Dr. Culen)

- Tackling Enviromental Issues: How ot Measure, Manage and Mitigate our Impact
(EARTH University)

Financial Aid

Most financial aid that you would receive on campus during the summer can be applied toward the cost of this study abroad program; however, all financial aid eligibility is determined by Student Financial Affairs. You must speak with your financial aid advisor to determine what aid can be applied to the cost of this study abroad program, including scholarships.

2018 Undergraduate Program Fees:

Program fee for session 1 or 2 - $TBD
Program fee for Session 1 + 1st half of Session 2 - $TBD
Program fee for Any 3 credit session = $TBD
Program fee for both sessions - $TBD

A $350 nonrefundable deposit toward the total cost of the program is due at the time of application. The remaining fees are due no later than 45 days prior to departure. If you receive financial aid, you can defer payment until it disburses. Deferment decision will be based on the amount of aid to be received.

What's Included:

Tuition, room and board, on-campus services (e.g., access to recreation facilities and library), local transportation, and administration fees, international health insurance, and medical emergency assistance.

What's Not Included:

Round-trip airfare, additional personal travel, and personal expenses.
