The University of Florida's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences offers students the opportunity to study in Aberdeen, Scotland. The University of Aberdeen is a public research university in Aberdeen, Scotland and is the fifth oldest university in the English speaking world. Students may attend in the fall, the spring, or for the entire academic year.

About the City:
Aberdeen is Scotland’s third largest city and is located on the Dee River. The city boasts spectacular granite architecture, is home to an active arts culture, and lively social scene. Aberdeen’s “Granite Mile” has over 800 shops and restaurants and is a common destination for locals and tourists alike. The city is home to its own golden sandy beach and has a mild climate with ample opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors.
About the University:
The University of Aberdeen is a public research university in Aberdeen, Scotland. It was founded in 1495 and is the fifth oldest university in the English speaking world. The university has been named as one of the most beautiful historic universities in the UK with its granite architecture and location in the heart of Old Aberdeen. The University of Aberdeen is home to 14,750 students and has a large international student presence with over 120 countries represented.

Exchange students are guaranteed housing provided their requests are submitted on time. Students have the option of living in catered (with a meal plan) or self-catered (with shared kitchen) residence halls. Students can live on campus in either Crombie or Johnston Hall or in Hillhead Student Village, which is a 15 minute walk from campus.

Academic Credits:
As this is a UF program, credits taken can satisfy major, minor, and elective course requirements with prior approval. UF GPA credit will be granted for all courses taken at University of Aberdeen. Numerous Aberdeen science courses have been pre-approved for UF credit. Please see the following spreadsheet for a list of approved courses:

The Brian and Kate Harfe International Exchange Award
The Brian and Kate Harfe International Exchange Award provides need-based scholarships for University of Florida College of Liberal Arts and Sciences students studying abroad at the University of Aberdeen. All scholarship materials should be emailed to Dr. Brian Harfe at If you are awarded a scholarship you agree to serve as an ambassador for the exchange program. This could entail giving brief presentations to UF students and/or writing a brief summary of your experience abroad.

Financial Aid:
University of Florida students needing financial aid should apply through UF Student Financial Affairs (SFA). Non-UF students needing financial aid must apply to their home institutions.

A $300 non-refundable service charge is assessed for students participating in single semester terms and a $500 non-refundable service charge is assessed for all participating in Academic Year programs.  This charge is due within 21 days of the application.
Students will be charged regular UF tuition while participating  in the program. Tuition at Aberdeen will be waived.
