UF in Grenada

Nursing
Spring Break: March 2-11, 2018

About the Program

The University of Florida nursing students will have the opportunity to work alongside public health nurses and other members of the healthcare system. This Faculty led, International Nursing Study Abroad Program (N-SAP) is a way to offer an innovative method of teaching by fostering academic and experiential learning in a global setting. This course provides an opportunity for nursing students to have an enriched experience of clinical practice at the level of novice in a Low-middle Resource Country (LRC).
 

About the Location

Grenada is a tri-island state comprising the islands of Grenada, Carriacou, and Petit Martinique. It is located in the Eastern Caribbean 100 miles off of the coast of Venezuela. The country’s economy is based on tourism and agriculture, and it is the world’s second largest producer of nutmeg and mace.
 

Excursions

  • Fish Friday – An outdoor festival with local Grenadian food
  • Belmont Plantation – A restored slaved planation
  • Seven Sisters Waterfall
  • Nutmeg factory - Grenada was once the second largest exporter of nutmeg, second only to Indonesia
 
Housing
Students will stay in Grooms Beach Hotel.
ANALYZE how student’s intended profession is viewed and practiced in a different country
 
EVALUATE biases and develop skills in working with people from other cultures

APPRAISE the language (dialect), art, religion, and philosophy of the host culture

EXAMINE the host country culture beliefs, values, customs, perspectives, and practices

CREATE an abstract to submit for a poster or oral presentation to a local, national or interanational conference

  • Students in good standing
  • 2.5 GPA or higher

2018 Pricing

Undergraduate Program Fee: $1,537

A nonrefundable deposit $350 for undergraduates is due at the time of application. The remaining fees are due no later than 45 days prior to departure.

What's Included:

Tuition for 3 UF Credit hours, lodging, in-country transportation, emergency medical assistance, and international health insurance.

What's Not Included:

Round-trip airfare to Grenada (expect to cost about $681) and meals.
